Mauritian PM Visits Varanasi as Modi Reviews Uttarakhand Flood Situation
Summit to strengthen India-Mauritius ties in development, health, education, energy, and emerging sectors, alongside PM Modi’s flood assessment in Uttarakhand.
New Delhi, Sep 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a day-long visit to Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Thursday, hosting Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi and reviewing the flood situation in Uttarakhand.
At 11:30 am in Varanasi, PM Modi will host Ramgoolam, who is on a state visit to India from September 9–16. The meeting will focus on strengthening bilateral ties, with special attention to development partnerships, capacity building, health, education, science and technology, energy, infrastructure, renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy.
Later in the day, PM Modi will travel to Dehradun to conduct an aerial survey of flood-affected areas at 4:15 pm, followed by a high-level review meeting with officials at 5 pm to coordinate relief efforts.
The Varanasi meeting underscores the enduring civilizational connection, spiritual bonds, and people-to-people ties between India and Mauritius. During bilateral discussions, the leaders will review existing cooperation and explore opportunities for expanded collaboration in key sectors, including renewable energy and digital public infrastructure.
Ramgoolam’s visit builds on the momentum from PM Modi’s state visit to Mauritius in March, which elevated the bilateral relationship to an “Enhanced Strategic Partnership.” Mauritius is a key partner in India’s MAHASAGAR vision and “Neighbourhood First” policy. Strengthened cooperation is expected to contribute to mutual prosperity and the collective aspirations of the Global South.
The summit in Varanasi marks a milestone in India-Mauritius relations, highlighting sustainable development, shared prosperity, and a secure, inclusive future for both nations.
