Mauritius PM Praises ‘Constructive’ Call With Modi, Signals Stronger AI Collaboration

Mauritius PM Calls Talks With Modi ‘Constructive,’ Eyes Deeper Collaboration at AI Summit

New Delhi, Feb 10 : Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam described his recent conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “constructive,” emphasizing plans to expand bilateral collaboration during the upcoming AI Impact Summit in India. He reiterated Mauritius’ support for strengthening strategic ties across development, innovation, and emerging technologies.

In a post on X, Ramgoolam thanked Modi for the exchange and said both nations remain firmly aligned in advancing cooperation. He added that the summit would offer an opportunity to further enhance the partnership.

Focus on Historic and People-Centric Ties
Prime Minister Modi confirmed receiving the call and noted that the leaders reviewed progress in wide-ranging areas of cooperation since their meeting in Varanasi last year. He reaffirmed a shared commitment to deepen the “special, historic, and people-centric” relationship between the two countries.

Modi also highlighted the importance of joint efforts to promote peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region and said he looked forward to welcoming Ramgoolam to India for the summit.

Expanding Cooperation Across Key Sectors
During Ramgoolam’s state visit last September, India announced a Special Economic Package exceeding USD 680 million for Mauritius and signed several agreements aimed at boosting collaboration.

The discussions covered bilateral, regional, and global issues, resulting in seven Memorandums of Understanding spanning science and technology, oceanography, public administration, power, small development projects, hydrography, and space cooperation.

The latest exchange signals continued momentum in India-Mauritius relations as both nations seek to broaden engagement in strategic and technology-driven sectors.
