Maxwell Rejoins Melbourne Stars on Two Year Deal Ahead of BBL Season

Stars retain veteran allrounder Maxwell alongside young talents Kellaway and Anlezark ahead of BBL 16

Melbourne, Jan 27: Australian star allrounder Glenn Maxwell has re-signed with the Melbourne Stars for another two years, the Big Bash League (BBL) club announced on Tuesday.

Since joining the Stars in BBL 2, Maxwell has played 123 matches, scoring 3,193 runs and establishing himself as one of the league’s greatest players. Despite a challenging season in BBL|15, where he scored just 76 runs in eight innings and claimed two wickets, the 37 year old said it was an easy decision to continue his career with the Stars.

“The Melbourne Stars have been a massive part of my cricket career and I’m really passionate about this team having success,” Maxwell said. “I think this current group is building towards something special and I’m confident we’re in a place to contend for the title in the next two seasons.”

Clint McKay, Melbourne Stars’ T20 High Performance Manager, praised Maxwell’s commitment, saying, “Glenn has obviously been one of the best T20 players in the world for a long period of time, and his dedication to the Stars is really valuable to us.”

In addition to Maxwell, the Stars have extended contracts for emerging talents. Left handed batter Campbell Kellaway has signed on for another two years after playing all 11 games this season and showing promise as a future mainstay of the team. Twenty-year-old Austin Anlezark has also added another year to his contract, ahead of the BBL Player Movement Window opening from January 28 to February 5.

McKay highlighted the importance of retaining young talent, saying, “Signing Campbell was just as important as he adds stability to our top order. Austin is a bright young talent who will benefit greatly from another year in our program.”
