Mayawati Ends Tradition of Visiting Key Memorials on Jayantis and Punyatithis

BSP chief will pay tributes from her residence or party office, ending in-person visits to parks and memorials of social reformers.

New Delhi, Dec 03 : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday announced that she will no longer visit major memorials and parks dedicated to social reformers during their birth and death anniversaries. The decision comes to avoid inconvenience to the public caused by extensive security arrangements during her visits.

In a social media post, Mayawati highlighted that during the four BSP governments in Uttar Pradesh, her administration had accorded special respect to icons of the Bahujan movement, including Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj, Narayana Guru, Dr BR Ambedkar, and Kanshi Ram. Under her leadership, the party initiated public welfare projects and constructed grand memorials, parks, and cultural sites in Lucknow and Gautam Buddha Nagar, which now attract large crowds, especially during commemorative occasions.

The BSP chief noted that her presence at these sites often caused followers to be stopped at a distance due to security protocols, leading to discomfort among devotees. She said tributes will henceforth be offered from her residence or the party office rather than through in-person visits.

For the upcoming death anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar on December 6, BSP members and supporters across Uttar Pradesh, except the western region, will gather at the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal in Lucknow. Followers from Western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Uttarakhand are expected to assemble at the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida. The gatherings will reaffirm their commitment to advancing Ambedkar’s vision of social equality under BSP’s leadership.
