MCL, NDRF Carry Out Mock Rescue Drill at Odisha Coal Mine
Joint exercise at Kulda Opencast Project simulates water-related mining emergencies, highlights rapid response and safety protocols
SUNDARGARH, Odisha: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted a joint mock rescue drill on Monday at the Kulda Opencast Project (OCP) in Basundhara area, Sundargarh district, to assess and strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response systems.
The drill, organised in collaboration with the Mine Rescue Team from the Mines Rescue Station, Orient Area, focused on handling water-related emergencies in mining operations.
In the simulated scenario, two pump operators were reported to have drowned in the mid-sump area one conscious and the other missing. Upon receiving the alert, emergency protocols were activated, and a coordinated rescue operation was launched immediately.
Working in seamless coordination with Kulda OCP officials, the rescue teams carried out a systematic search operation. Both workers were successfully located, safely rescued, and brought to the surface within the stipulated time. Immediate first aid and medical attention were administered as per standard emergency procedures.
The exercise saw active participation from MCL officials, rescue teams, and support staff, underscoring the company’s commitment to ensuring high standards of mine safety and preparedness.
