Meerut Man Gets Conditional Bail in Case Over Video Featuring PM Modi and Pakistan PM

Court observes chargesheet already filed; accused Javed had no prior criminal record

Allahabad, Oct 15: The Allahabad High Court has granted conditional bail to a Meerut resident, Javed, accused of uploading a satirical video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his WhatsApp status earlier this year.

The case was registered following an FIR filed by Sub-Inspector Kapil Dev of Jani Police Station in Meerut on May 12, 2025, under Section 152 of the IPC. The FIR alleged that Javed had shared misleading content on social media amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack.

According to the complaint, the video depicted PM Modi purportedly asking the Pakistani PM to “join the war” to divert public attention and maintain political control  a move allegedly intended to mock both leaders.

During the hearing, Javed’s counsel argued that his client had no prior criminal record and that, since the chargesheet had already been filed, he was eligible for bail. The prosecution, however, opposed the plea.

After considering the submissions, Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deswal granted Javed conditional bail, noting that further custodial interrogation was unnecessary.

The case highlights the growing scrutiny of social media activity amid rising concerns over misinformation and politically sensitive content online.
