Mild Earthquake Hits Jammu and Kashmir, Kishtwar Identified as Epicentre

Magnitude 3.5 quake strikes Kishtwar district; no casualties or property damage reported

SRINAGAR, May 8: Mild earthquake tremors were experienced in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning, causing brief panic among residents.
According to officials, the earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale occurred in Kishtwar district at approximately 9:57 AM IST. Seismic monitoring agencies stated that the quake originated at a depth of 10 kilometres beneath the surface.
The epicentre was identified in the Kishtwar region with coordinates Latitude 33.289 North and Longitude 76.739 East.
People in various districts reported feeling the tremors for a few seconds, with many stepping out of their homes and offices as a precautionary measure. However, authorities confirmed that there were no immediate reports of injuries, fatalities, or damage to property from any part of the Union Territory.
Officials said the situation remained normal and disaster management teams were monitoring developments closely.
