JAMMU, Oct 6: A mild earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale struck the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Monday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The tremor was recorded at 02:47:08 IST, with its epicentre located at latitude 33.10°N and longitude 76.18°E, and at a shallow depth of 5 kilometres beneath the earth’s surface.
Residents in parts of Doda and surrounding areas reported mild shaking, though no injuries, casualties, or structural damage were reported in the immediate aftermath. Authorities confirmed that the situation remained normal and no emergency response was required. The shallow depth of the quake may have contributed to its perceptibility despite its relatively low magnitude.
The NCS shared details of the seismic event on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “EQ of M: 3.6, On: 06/10/2025, 02:47:08 IST, Lat: 33.10 N, Long: 76.18 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Doda, Jammu & Kashmir.”
Doda, which lies in a seismically active zone of the Himalayan region, experiences occasional low- to moderate-intensity earthquakes. Seismologists advise residents to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols, even during minor tremors, as the region’s geological features make it susceptible to future seismic activity. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged people not to panic while reiterating the importance of earthquake preparedness in vulnerable zones.
