Mizoram Panel Cracks Down on Departments Over Project Delays
State monitoring body to summon departments ignoring directives; government pushes reforms to fast-track execution
Mizoram, Apr 25 : In a decisive step to improve governance and speed up development, the Mizoram State Project Monitoring Committee (MSPMC) has resolved to take action against departments failing to implement its recommendations on ongoing projects.
The decision was made during the eighth general body meeting of the MSPMC, held in Aizawl and chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma. Officials confirmed that departments showing non-compliance will be summoned before the panel, with the possibility of further measures if lapses persist.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the committee aims to ensure stricter accountability across government departments. The move reflects growing concern over delays that have slowed the pace of infrastructure and development projects in Mizoram.
Addressing the meeting, Lalduhoma highlighted that the MSPMC’s efforts have already begun to yield encouraging results. However, he emphasized that consistent commitment from all stakeholders remains essential to maintain momentum and ensure projects are completed within stipulated timelines.
The chief minister also pointed to structural reforms introduced by the state government to reduce bureaucratic hurdles. Previously, projects often faced prolonged delays due to multiple layers of approvals, including financial allocation, administrative clearance, and expenditure sanctions.
To streamline this process, departmental secretaries have now been granted the authority to approve both administrative and financial aspects within their respective domains. This decentralization of power is expected to significantly cut down delays and improve efficiency in project execution.
The meeting further focused on strengthening monitoring mechanisms for the current financial year. Key discussions included enhancing field inspections and improving public outreach initiatives to boost transparency. Officials noted that better communication with citizens and on-ground verification would play a crucial role in ensuring accountability.
With these measures, the MSPMC is positioning itself as a central force in driving timely development and minimizing inefficiencies, signaling a more proactive governance approach in the state.
