NAFED continues to Issue supply order of onion to bidders

NAFED has ordered to supply 15 thousand tonnes of onion

New Delhi, 06 November: The Cooperative Society, National Agricultural and Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) has issued orders to supply 15,000 tonnes of imported onions. Nafed said on Friday that bidders have been finalized in this regard.

In a statement issued by Nafed, it will increase the availability of onion in the domestic market and keep the prices under control. NAFED said that the imported onions would be distributed from the port cities. Therefore, to ensure fast supply, the State Governments have been asked what quantity of onions they need.

In addition, Nafed plans to issue regular tenders for additional supply of imported onions. According to an official statement, Nafed received a good response to the tenders issued for supply in Tuticorin and Mumbai a day earlier, after which Nafed finalized the successful bidders to ensure timely supply to the market.

It is noteworthy that according to the prices of mandis, retail prices of onions have reached Rs 80-100 per kg in some parts of the country. However, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has set wholesale and retail stock limits to curb the rising onion prices. At the same time, Nafed hoped that policy intervention by the central government and buffer stock, imports and new arrivals would speed up the supply and onion prices would soon return to normal.(HS)
