Namo Bharat Records Over 4.5 Crore Passenger Journeys, Showcased at Berlin Transport Tech Expo

Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor records over 1.68 lakh daily commuters as NCRTC highlights advanced technology at InnoTrans 2026

NEW DELHI, Sep 23: The 82 km Namo Bharat corridor linking Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut has crossed 4.5 crore passenger journeys since the start of operations, with daily ridership recently surpassing 1.68 lakh, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) said.

The NCRTC is presenting India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System at InnoTrans 2026, a major international transport technology exhibition being held in Berlin from Tuesday to Friday.

The corridor connects Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi with Modipuram in Meerut. The entire route became operational in February this year and also incorporates the Meerut Metro, which runs on the same infrastructure.

D Thara, Secretary in the Department of Capital Development under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Chairperson of the NCRTC, inaugurated the corporation’s exhibition stand in Berlin in the presence of NCRTC Managing Director Shalabh Goel.

Thara also addressed the Rail Leaders’ Summit 2026, where she highlighted the role of regional rail networks in expanding access to employment and economic opportunities beyond major urban centres. She said Namo Bharat was carrying between one lakh and two lakh passengers each day and could contribute to reducing congestion in Delhi by strengthening connections across the National Capital Region.

Goel said the project reflected India’s growing capabilities in developing technology-driven regional transport systems. He also highlighted the use of ETCS Hybrid Level 3 signalling over LTE, which the NCRTC described as the first deployment of its kind globally.

The Namo Bharat system was developed to improve regional connectivity while addressing challenges related to congestion and pollution. The NCRTC is also showcasing its approach to multimodal integration, passenger-focused services and technological advancement at the Berlin exhibition.

Held every two years, InnoTrans brings together companies and experts from the international transport sector, covering railway technology, infrastructure, public transport, interiors and tunnel construction. The 2026 edition also features emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomous public transport and digital solutions.
