Narendra Modi Receives Norway’s Prestigious Highest Civilian Decoration

Indian Prime Minister receives the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit for strengthening bilateral relations and global leadership.

OSLO, May 18: Narendra Modi on Monday received Norway’s highest civilian honour, the prestigious Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, in recognition of his efforts to deepen ties between India and Norway and for his global leadership role.

The honour was presented by King Harald V during Modi’s official visit to Oslo. The distinguished award is conferred upon individuals for exceptional service in promoting Norway’s interests and fostering international cooperation.

With this recognition, the Indian Prime Minister has now received his 32nd international award from foreign nations, highlighting India’s growing diplomatic outreach and strategic partnerships across the world.

The latest recognition comes just a day after Modi was honoured by Sweden with the prestigious Royal Order of the Polar Star in appreciation of his contributions toward strengthening India-Sweden relations and enhancing global cooperation. The Swedish award is regarded as the country’s highest honour bestowed upon foreign Heads of Government.

Modi arrived in Oslo on a two-day official visit after concluding engagements in Sweden. The visit marks his first trip to Norway as Prime Minister and also the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Nordic nation in more than four decades.

Officials said the visit is expected to further strengthen cooperation between India and Norway in sectors such as renewable energy, maritime affairs, climate initiatives, technology, and trade partnerships.

The high-level diplomatic engagements are being viewed as part of India’s broader strategy to expand relations with Nordic countries and enhance collaboration on sustainable development and innovation.
