Narendra Modi Urges Citizens to Choose ‘Swadeshi’ and Be ‘Vocal for Local’ During Festivals

In Mann Ki Baat, PM urges festive shoppers to support domestic products and strengthen self-reliance drive

New Delhi, Feb 22 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called upon citizens to prioritise ‘swadeshi’ products during upcoming festivals, reiterating his message to remain “vocal for local” while making purchases.

Addressing the nation in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi extended greetings for the holy month of Ramzan and conveyed advance wishes for Holi, noting that the season of colours and celebration was approaching.

He encouraged families to celebrate with joy while also being mindful of their buying choices. Stressing the importance of supporting domestic industries, the Prime Minister said consumers should consciously opt for locally manufactured goods during festive shopping.

Modi observed that imported items have increasingly become part of festival markets and urged people to keep such products away from traditional celebrations. Choosing Indian made goods, he said, would not only preserve cultural spirit but also strengthen the country’s push towards self-reliance.

The appeal aligns with the broader economic vision of promoting indigenous production and empowering local businesses across sectors.
