National Conference intensifies campaign as Omar Abdullah seeks support for Shameem Begum in Nagrota
Bypoll in Nagrota to fill seat left vacant after BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana’s demise
Jammu, Nov 6: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday called upon the people of Nagrota Assembly constituency to participate in large numbers in the upcoming November 11 bypoll and extend their full support to the National Conference (NC) candidate, Shameem Begum. Addressing an election gathering in the constituency, the Chief Minister urged voters to stand united for progress, stability, and the inclusive vision that the National Conference represents.
The bypoll was necessitated following the passing of BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana in October 2024, which left the Nagrota seat vacant. The election has since become a high-stakes contest, with both major parties ,the National Conference and the BJP, intensifying their campaigns in the region.
Omar Abdullah, in his address, highlighted the importance of this election for the people of Nagrota, describing it as an opportunity to choose a representative committed to development, equality, and social welfare. He praised Shameem Begum for her dedication to public service and her strong grassroots connection, calling her “a symbol of sincerity and resilience.” Abdullah appealed to the voters to reject divisive politics and elect a candidate who would work tirelessly to uplift the constituency’s youth, women, and marginalized sections.
“This bypoll is not just about filling a vacant seat, it is about shaping the future of Nagrota. I urge every voter, especially the youth, to exercise their right and support our candidate, who embodies the National Conference’s vision of inclusive growth and transparent governance,” Abdullah said.
The Chief Minister also reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring peace, progress, and equitable development across Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the National Conference has always stood by the people during difficult times and will continue to work for social justice, employment generation, and infrastructure development.
However, the rally witnessed a brief interruption due to a technical fault in the audio system. Despite the glitch, Abdullah continued to engage with the crowd, thanking them for their overwhelming support and enthusiasm. The malfunction forced him to cut short his speech, but his message of unity and commitment to the people resonated strongly with the audience.
Senior National Conference leaders, local party workers, and supporters were also present at the rally. They expressed confidence that the people of Nagrota would once again place their trust in the party, which has a long legacy of serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir with integrity and vision.
As campaigning intensifies in the run-up to the November 11 bypoll, the National Conference is focusing on door-to-door outreach and public meetings across the constituency to connect with voters directly. Party workers said that Omar Abdullah’s presence has energized the campaign, motivating supporters to ensure a strong turnout on polling day.
