National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah Extols PM Modi’s Efforts in Launching Kashmir’s First Electric Train

Srinagar, 20-02-2024 : Farooq Abdullah, President of the National Conference and Member of Parliament, extended his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the first electric train service to the Kashmir valley, marking a significant milestone in the region’s transportation infrastructure.

During his visit to Jammu, PM Modi remotely flagged off the inaugural electric train on the Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal-Sangaldan route, a momentous occasion celebrated via video conference at the Nowgam railway station in Srinagar.

Abdullah expressed his commendation for this noteworthy initiative, emphasizing its importance and the substantial contributions made by the Prime Minister and the Railway Ministry towards its realization. He lauded the dedication of railway workers who diligently labored to bring the railway network to Kashmir, foreseeing positive outcomes for the region’s populace.

The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir envisioned further connectivity enhancements, expressing hope that the Katra-Sangaldan train route would soon be operational. Abdullah underscored the profound impact of improved railway connectivity, particularly amid challenging weather conditions that often disrupt road travel and hinder tourism.

Highlighting the broader benefits, Abdullah noted that enhanced rail connectivity would not only bolster tourism but also facilitate seamless travel to and from Kashmir, fostering economic growth and trade opportunities. He emphasized the significance of streamlined transportation channels for the efficient movement of goods both within Kashmir and across the country.

Reflecting on the arduous journey to establish railway connectivity to the valley, Abdullah acknowledged the formidable obstacles posed by the region’s rugged terrain. Despite these challenges, he praised the resilience and perseverance of the railway authorities in overcoming hurdles and initiating this crucial endeavor.

Looking ahead, Abdullah expressed optimism that the railway network would soon be fully integrated with the national rail grid, further enhancing connectivity and facilitating smoother travel experiences for residents and visitors alike. He anticipated the completion of this ambitious project by June or July, marking a significant milestone in Kashmir’s journey towards comprehensive development and connectivity.
