Navjot Kaur Sidhu seeks security, flags land scam, alleges mafia links under Mann government

Suspended Congress leader accuses AAP regime of protecting liquor and mining mafia, flags “biggest land scandal” in Punjab in letter to Governor

New Delhi, Dec 13 : Navjot Kaur Sidhu, recently suspended by the Congress, has levelled serious allegations against the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, seeking security for herself and accusing the administration of shielding the liquor and mining mafia.

In a post on X, Sidhu said that any threat to her life would be the responsibility of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. She also questioned why issues she had earlier raised with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria had not received an appropriate response.

Along with her post, Sidhu shared a detailed letter addressed to the Governor, in which she alleged what she described as the “biggest land scandal” in the state. She claimed that the current government was regularising large-scale illegal land holdings in the ecologically sensitive Shivalik belt, including protected forest areas.

According to Sidhu, land sharks had allegedly grabbed land parcels ranging from one acre to as much as 10,000 acres at throwaway prices, and were now being granted legal protection. She recalled her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu’s tenure as Punjab’s Local Bodies Minister, stating that he had refused to clear files linked to the matter and had instead ordered an inquiry.

Raising concerns over the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Punjab, Sidhu alleged that rising crime, misuse of weapons and growing public fear were forcing people to think about migrating from the state.

She urged the Governor to convene an urgent special session of the Punjab Assembly to address key issues, including safeguarding institutional autonomy, honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, and restoring public confidence in governance through immediate intervention.
