NC Holds Meeting of Ruling Alliance Legislators Ahead of J&K Assembly Session and RS Polls

NC Gathers Ruling Alliance Legislators to Strategize Ahead of J&K Assembly Session and Rajya Sabha Polls

Srinagar, Oct 22: The National Conference (NC) convened a crucial meeting of legislators from its ruling alliance on Wednesday evening, ahead of the upcoming Jammu & Kashmir Assembly session and Rajya Sabha elections. The discussion is expected to focus on strategy and coordination among coalition partners.

Despite recent tensions over Rajya Sabha seat allocations, the NC has invited the Congress to participate in the meeting. Sources indicate that the Congress will decide its participation after a separate legislature party meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening. Relations between the two allies have been strained after Congress refused to contest a ‘riskier’ seat offered by the NC, as well as the Nagrota Assembly seat.

Besides Congress, the NC has invited lone legislator Sajad Lone, CPI(M) MLA Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, and five independent MLAs supporting the government.

The meeting comes a day before the start of the autumn Assembly session and two days ahead of voting for the Rajya Sabha seats. The contest for the fourth Rajya Sabha seat is expected to be tight, with the BJP backed by 28 MLAs and the coalition holding 24. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has three MLAs, has not disclosed its strategy for the polls.

This gathering underscores the NC’s efforts to consolidate support within the coalition and ensure smooth coordination during both legislative and electoral proceedings.
