NC President Farooq Abdullah Advocates Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai Renewal Amidst Ongoing India-China Talks

Jammu, 09-01-2024 : National Conference (NC) president, Farooq Abdullah, expressed that India is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to resolve the border issue with China through dialogue. However, he emphasized that without a positive response from Beijing, there is little that can be accomplished in the ongoing discussions. Speaking at a function, Abdullah also expressed a hope for the revival of the “Hindi-Chini bhai bhai” sentiment, calling for a restoration of friendly relations between India and China.

Abdullah acknowledged the expanding influence of China in the region, citing its growing impact on neighboring countries like Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. He highlighted the encirclement that India perceives due to China’s increasing influence. Despite India’s commitment to resolving issues through talks, Abdullah underscored the necessity for China to reciprocate positively.

Reflecting on the historical camaraderie between India and China during the time of Jawaharlal Nehru and the formulation of Panchsheel, Abdullah expressed a desire to rebuild the friendly environment that existed before the 1962 war. He emphasized the importance of diplomatic engagement and positive responses from both sides.

Regarding the controversy surrounding the Maldives, Abdullah admitted his lack of knowledge about the situation but affirmed India’s historical support for the Maldives during challenging times. He speculated on the possible connection between the controversy and the Hindu-Muslim divide in India, leaving it to the foreign ministry to provide clarity.

Addressing the ongoing Ram temple issue and the associated invitations, Abdullah urged that religious matters should not be politicized. He emphasized that the Ram temple is a universal symbol, and everyone is free to visit. He called on leaders of all parties to refrain from connecting religious matters to politics.

In response to queries about a potential invitation to the grand Ram temple event, Abdullah modestly stated, “I am a small fly,” downplaying his significance in the larger context of the event. Throughout his comments, Abdullah advocated for a diplomatic resolution of border issues and emphasized the need to separate religious matters from political agendas.
