NC united; struggle for restoration of Special Status will continue: Dr Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar, 01 Nov: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah has said J&K National Conference stands as a united and solid wall, having weathered countless storms, faced the toughest trials and overcome numerous challenges throughout its long political history. He said the real strength of the National Conference lies in its unbreakable bond with the people, its pro-people policies and its historic struggle for constitutional, democratic and fundamental rights.

Dr Farooq Abdullah said NC remains firmly committed to its core ideology, political principles and historic mission. “Our struggle for the restoration of the constitutional and democratic rights taken away from the people of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, was continuing yesterday, is continuing today and will persist until the objective of restoring our constitutional rights, dignity and democratic status is achieved,” he said.

Dr Farooq Abdullah made it clear that no false propaganda, deceptive rhetoric or misleading conspiracy could distort the historic role, political position and public agenda of the National Conference. He said that the party’s politics is not confined to the pursuit of power but is rooted in the protection of the rights, identity, distinct character and constitutional safeguards of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that the National Conference challenged the decisions of August 5, 2019, before the Supreme Court, consistently raised its voice against the abrogation in Parliament and also presented its position before the Court of public opinion with complete clarity. “In accordance with the mandate given to the party by the people through the electoral process, a resolution seeking restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was passed by an overwhelming majority in the very first session of the Legislative Assembly. The resolution was not merely a political step but a reflection of the sentiments, aspirations and democratic mandate of the people.”

Dr Farooq Abdullah further said that the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s full statehood was also an important component of the party’s political struggle. Statehood is the constitutional right of the people, and the party will continue to raise its voice until it is restored. He said the party’s ultimate goal is to see a Jammu and Kashmir where people can live with their rights, dignity, political empowerment and democratic self-respect fully protected.
