NC will continue its fight for restoration of Art 370 & 35A: Sunil Verma
Welcomes Supreme Court's directions on J&K elections, restoration of statehood
Udhampur, December 11: Sunil Verma, District President of J&K National Conference, Udhampur, today welcomed the Supreme Court’s directions to the Election Commission to conduct Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir before September 30, 2024. He also lauded the Top Court’s instructions to the Centre regarding the restoration of Statehood.
In a statement issued today, Sunil Verma emphasized the growing hardships faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the absence of a democratically elected government. He stated that the lack of popular representation has resulted in increased public suffering and a lack of accountability.
He asked the Central Government to adhere to the Supreme Court’s directives and expedite the Assembly elections within the stipulated timeframe of September 2024. This timely action would pave the way for a democratically elected government to address the concerns of the people and alleviate their burdens.
The senior NC leader also expressed his disappointment with the Supreme Court’s separate verdict on Article 370. He emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are undeniably facing immense hardship due to its abrogation. He reiterated that Article 370 bestowed special rights on the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sunil Verma highlighted how the abrogation of Article 370 has led to the outsourcing of entire sectors, including mining, contracting, and supplies, to individuals from outside the region. He stated that previously, Article 370 protected local businesses and traders from such external competition.
He expressed serious concern regarding the closure of local industries due to the lack of special incentives for local industrialists.
The senior NC leader appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to remain steadfast in their faith in the leadership of the National Conference and strengthen the hands of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. He emphasized that only the National Conference has the necessary fortitude to safeguard the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Verma asserted that while it took the BJP decades to abrogate Article 370, the National Conference will continue its unwavering fight for its restoration.
