NCB Srinagar Dismantles Major Drug Smuggling Racket, 3 Held
Crackdown in Anantnag marks one of the year’s biggest narcotics hauls in Jammu and Kashmir.
SRINAGAR, Sept 13: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Srinagar Zone, has dismantled a major narcotics smuggling network in south Kashmir, seizing over 10.7 kg of charas and arresting three accused in what officials described as one of the biggest banned drug hauls of the year.
Acting on specific intelligence, an NCB team carried out a targeted operation in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag district on August 19, which led to the seizure of 10.735 kg of charas.
The accused were identified as Firdous of Bijbehara Anantnag, Jan Mohammad Baba of Lal Bazar Srinagar, and Mohammad Lateef of Srigufwara Anantnag. Verification revealed that Firdous and Jan Mohammad Baba were repeat offenders previously booked in NDPS cases by local police and NCB Jammu.
According to officials, the contraband was procured from Mohammad Lateef, who not only supplied the drugs but also facilitated their inter-state transport through illicit channels.
The NCB said the operation underscores the significance of its Srinagar office, established to strengthen the union government’s strategy against narcotics in Jammu and Kashmir.
“NCB remains committed to disrupting the drug trade, safeguarding youth from its harmful effects, and ensuring stronger inter-agency coordination across the Union Territory,” the agency said in a statement.
