NEET-UG Re-Exam Preparations Intensify as Nationwide Mock Drill Begins

Authorities conduct extensive mock drills and strengthen security arrangements to ensure a smooth and transparent medical entrance test for over 22 lakh candidates.

NEW DELHI, June 20: Authorities across India carried out a large-scale preparedness exercise on Saturday ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, with officials implementing enhanced security protocols and conducting mock drills to ensure the smooth conduct of one of the country’s largest entrance examinations.

The exercise was organised nationwide to assess operational readiness at examination centres and strengthen coordination among agencies responsible for managing the test. Officials said the initiative is intended to eliminate potential disruptions and ensure a fair and transparent examination process.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), which is responsible for conducting the examination, has also heightened security measures at its headquarters in New Delhi. Additional monitoring systems and administrative safeguards have been put in place as part of efforts to maintain the integrity of the examination process.

The NEET-UG 2026 re-examination is scheduled to be held on June 21 from 2:00 pm to 5:15 pm in the traditional pen-and-paper format. More than 22.79 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the test at centres spread across 551 cities in India and 14 locations overseas.

According to officials, the mock drill focused on testing critical aspects of examination management, including candidate entry procedures, distribution of question papers, communication systems, surveillance mechanisms and emergency response protocols.

Authorities have directed examination centres to follow strict operational guidelines to ensure smooth movement of candidates and prevent any logistical challenges on the examination day. Special emphasis has been placed on maintaining transparency and safeguarding examination materials throughout the process.

The preparedness exercise also involved close coordination between local administrations, law enforcement agencies, education authorities and examination staff. Officials said the objective is to create a secure and well-organised environment for candidates appearing for the highly competitive medical entrance examination.

Security arrangements have been reinforced at multiple levels, including transportation of examination materials, monitoring of centres and deployment of personnel at sensitive locations. Advanced verification procedures and surveillance measures are also expected to be implemented to strengthen the examination framework.

The NEET-UG examination serves as the gateway for admission to undergraduate medical courses across the country and attracts millions of aspirants every year. Given the scale of the examination, authorities have stressed the importance of comprehensive planning and strict adherence to established protocols.

Officials expressed confidence that the extensive preparations undertaken in the lead-up to the examination would help ensure a seamless experience for candidates while maintaining the highest standards of fairness, accountability and transparency.

With the re-examination set to take place on Sunday, authorities remain on high alert and continue to monitor arrangements closely to guarantee the successful conduct of the nationwide test.
