Nepal Cricketer Praises Dale Steyn Following His Offer to Take Up Coaching Role
Nandan Yadav calls the praise “a big thing” as cricket legend volunteers support after Nepal’s narrow T20 World Cup defeat.
Nepal, Feb 09 : Nepal drew widespread admiration despite falling just short of a memorable upset against England in the T20 World Cup 2026, losing by four runs in a last ball finish at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Their spirited chase of 185 earned a standing ovation from spectators and accolades from cricket greats, including former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn.
Impressed by Nepal’s performance, Steyn took to X to offer his assistance, writing that he would be willing to help the team if required. The gesture resonated deeply within the Nepal camp, even as players grappled with the disappointment of the narrow defeat.
Fast bowler Nandan Yadav described the recognition from a player of Steyn’s stature as significant. He said it was special for the squad to receive encouragement from someone who dominated international cricket for a decade, though he added that any approach regarding coaching would ultimately depend on team management.
Yadav also made a mark during the match, removing England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler with the new ball and later dismissing captain Harry Brook, who struck a brisk half century. The pacer conceded just 25 runs across his three overs, playing a key role in keeping Nepal competitive.
Nepal will next face tournament debutants Italy on February 12 in a Group C encounter at the same venue, with the Rohit Paudel-led side aiming for its first T20 World Cup victory since 2014, when it defeated Afghanistan.
England, meanwhile, are set to meet West Indies in Mumbai on February 11. West Indies enter the contest with momentum after securing a 35-run win over Scotland in their opening match at Eden Gardens.
