Nepal Flood Tragedy: Death Toll Rises to 1,252

KATHMANDU, Sept 3: The death toll from the devastating flash floods in Nepal climbed to 1,252 on Thursday, with rescue teams recovering additional bodies from severely affected areas, while thousands of people remain unaccounted for more than a week after the disaster.
Data released by Nepal Police showed that Chitawan recorded the highest number of recovered bodies at 355, followed by Nawalparasi East with 218 and Nawalparasi West with 208.
The Nawalparasi West figure includes 18 bodies recovered from India and subsequently handed over to authorities in Nepal.
Nuwakot reported 177 recovered bodies, while 127 were found in Rasuwa, 69 in Gorkha, 60 in Dhading and 38 in Tahanu, according to the latest police figures.
Search Operation Enters Ninth Day
Joint rescue teams led by the Nepal Army continued search and rescue operations across the affected regions on Thursday, marking the ninth consecutive day of efforts to locate missing people and recover victims.
Authorities have estimated that 4,875 people are still missing, highlighting the enormous scale of the humanitarian crisis.
The flash floods were triggered on August 26 by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border. The resulting surge of water swept through towns and villages in northern and central Nepal, causing widespread destruction and leaving thousands of people missing.
Rescue personnel continue to search damaged and difficult to reach areas as authorities work to account for those still untraceable and assess the full impact of the disaster.
