Nepal FM Shisir Khanal Bids Farewell to Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava
Nepal and India review bilateral ties, with focus on energy, trade, connectivity and humanitarian cooperation.
KATHMANDU, September 16: Nepal Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal held a farewell meeting with Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava on Wednesday, reviewing the progress of bilateral relations and discussing prospects for further cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
Khanal congratulated Srivastava on completing his diplomatic tenure and acknowledged his contribution to strengthening relations between Kathmandu and New Delhi.
During the meeting, the foreign minister highlighted developments in key areas including energy cooperation, trade, infrastructure and connectivity. He also underlined the importance of the longstanding people to people ties between Nepal and India.
Khanal expressed appreciation for India’s support following the devastating flash floods in the Bhotekoshi River. He thanked the Indian government for its solidarity and for providing swift assistance in search, rescue and relief operations after the disaster.
The flash floods were triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26. According to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the disaster left nearly 1,400 people dead and more than 5,000 missing.
The minister wished Srivastava success in his future assignments and said he hoped the outgoing envoy would continue to maintain close ties with Nepal.
Srivastava thanked the Nepal government for its support and cooperation during his tenure. He expressed confidence that relations between New Delhi and Kathmandu would continue to deepen and contribute to greater prosperity for both countries.
The farewell meeting came amid continued engagement between the two nations across economic, infrastructure, energy and humanitarian areas.
