NIA Summons Renowned Islamic Scholar in Alleged Terror Funding Case

07-06-2023 : In an ongoing investigation into an alleged case of terror funding, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has summoned the highly respected Islamic scholar and rector of Dar ul Uloom Rahimya Bandipora, Maulana Rehmatullah Mir Qasmi. The NIA is actively looking into the matter under case RC-07/2022/NIA/JMU, dated September 3, 2022. The case is registered under sections 120B and 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as sections 10, 13, and 22C of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The investigation pertains to the raising of funds within Jammu and Kashmir and their alleged utilization for unlawful activities with the objective of radicalizing the youth in the region.

The summon issued by the NIA states that Maulana Qasmi is believed to possess knowledge related to the facts surrounding this case. Accordingly, he has been directed to appear at the NIA camp office located on Church Lane, Sonwar, Srinagar. The purpose of his appearance is to respond to specific questions pertaining to the case.

Sources have confirmed that Maulana Qasmi has indeed presented himself at the NIA office in Srinagar in response to the summon issued to him. The investigation continues as the NIA delves into the alleged terror funding and its potential impact on youth radicalization in Jammu and Kashmir.
