“NITI Aayog Eyes Andhra Pradesh as Clean Energy Hub by 2035”

Draft blueprint under ASSET platform aims for 7.5 lakh crore investment, 5–6 lakh jobs, and a major boost in solar, wind, and storage capacity.

VIJAYAWADA, Feb 06 : NITI Aayog on Thursday unveiled a draft blueprint to transform Andhra Pradesh into one of India’s top three renewable energy hubs by 2035.

The plan, presented by NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam to Chief Secretary K Vijayanand at the State Secretariat, is framed under the ASSET (Accelerating Sustainable State Energy Transition) platform. It proposes sectoral investments of Rs 7.5 lakh crore, with 90% expected from private players, potentially creating 5–6 lakh jobs while ensuring reliable, affordable, and clean electricity for all.

Under the blueprint, the state aims to add 35 GW of solar, 12 GW of wind, and 55–60 GWh of storage capacity for domestic consumption by 2035. For renewable energy exports, Andhra Pradesh plans 30 GW solar, 25–30 GW wind, and 10–12 GW pumped storage projects. Currently, 47% of the state’s power generation comes from renewables.

The strategy is expected to lower power purchase costs to Rs 3.90–4 per unit, keeping supply costs below Rs 6 per unit, benefiting households, farmers, and industries alike. Infrastructure upgrades include Rs 65,000–70,000 crore for transmission modernization covering green corridors, GIS substations, and HVDC lines and Rs 40,000 crore for strengthening distribution networks.

Distributed solar projects for agriculture will ensure daytime power supply while reducing subsidy burdens. The final blueprint will be submitted to the Central Steering Committee by March 2026, with implementation set to begin mid-March, monitored through a dedicated Energy War Room.

Officials highlighted that the plan aligns with the Swarna Andhra Vision and long-term industrial growth strategies, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leader in India’s clean energy transition.
