Nitin Nabin Assumes Charge as Bihar BJP President

Youngest ever BJP chief takes charge as party signals generational shift in leadership

New Delhi, Jan 20: Nitin Nabin was on Tuesday officially declared the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), succeeding J P Nadda and ushering in a new leadership phase for the party ahead of key political challenges.

The announcement was made by K Laxman, the returning officer for the BJP’s organisational elections, who formally declared the results and handed over the certificate of election to Nabin. At 45, Nabin becomes the youngest-ever leader to assume the party’s top organisational post.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outgoing president J P Nadda, and senior BJP leaders including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari were present at the party headquarters to witness the leadership transition.

Founded in 1980, the BJP is now led by its 12th national president a symbolic moment, as Nitin Nabin was born in the same year the party came into existence.

A low profile leader known for his organisational work, Nabin had resigned from his posts as Bihar’s law and justice, urban development and housing minister after being appointed BJP working president on December 14.

Announcing the results, Laxman said the election reflected the BJP’s organisational ethos. “This election shows that in the BJP, leadership rises from hard work and dedication, not from dynastic privilege,” he said.

Congratulating his successor, J P Nadda described the occasion as historic. “Today is a very significant moment as our young, energetic and capable leader, Nitin Nabin, takes charge as the national president of the world’s largest political party. I congratulate him on behalf of crores of BJP workers,” Nadda said.
