CM Omar Abdullah Meets LG Ahead of J&K Budget Session, Reviews Ramadan Preparations
Srinagar, March 01: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fulfilling all promises made to the people while dismissing the BJP’s reported formation of a shadow cabinet as baseless and unnecessary. Addressing reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah emphasized that India’s governance structure does not recognize the concept of a shadow cabinet, asserting that his administration is fully capable of delivering on its commitments without external theatrics.
“There is only one cabinet in our country. The BJP has ruled here in the past, and now it is time for the people’s government to take charge and fulfill its responsibilities. There is no need for a shadow. We have assured the people that we will meet their expectations, and we stand firm on our promises,” Abdullah said.
The chief minister made these remarks after visiting the residence of the late Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi, who passed away earlier this week. Masoodi was the brother of National Conference MLA Hasnain Masoodi and the father-in-law of Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Offering his condolences, Abdullah acknowledged Masoodi’s contributions and extended his support to the grieving family.
In a separate development, Abdullah chaired a high-level meeting to review the administration’s preparedness for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. Stressing the importance of seamless public services, he directed officials to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Sehri and Iftar, availability of clean drinking water, smooth distribution of essential commodities, and enhanced sanitation and traffic management. “It is our responsibility to provide all necessary facilities to the people during Ramadan. We have reviewed every department’s preparedness and issued clear instructions for timely implementation,” he said.
Later in the day, Abdullah also met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to discuss key issues related to the forthcoming Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The session, which is set to begin on Monday, will be crucial for outlining the government’s policy priorities and financial roadmap for the Union Territory. According to an official spokesperson, the meeting focused on legislative strategies and measures to ensure a productive session that addresses the region’s developmental needs.
As the new administration prepares to navigate critical governance challenges, Abdullah’s statements signal a firm stance against political distractions while reiterating his government’s focus on effective governance and people-centric policies.
