Noida Forced Conversion Case Sparks Hunt for Absconding Accused

Police rescue victim from Chennai after High Court intervention, prime accused and parents in custody, cleric still on the run.

NOIDA, Sept 10 : The Noida Police have arrested three people, including a woman, in connection with an alleged case of forced religious conversion and unlawful marriage of a married woman. The arrests were carried out under the jurisdiction of Phase-3 police station, while two other accused—including the cleric who allegedly solemnized the marriage—remain on the run.

The arrests followed a habeas corpus petition filed by the victim’s family in the Allahabad High Court, which directed police to trace her. Acting on these instructions, investigators tracked the woman to Chennai, from where she was rescued and presented before the court on Monday.

The prime accused has been identified as Raja Miyan alias Ehsan, along with his father Bismillah and mother Aneesha Begum. Police allege that the trio coerced the woman into converting to Islam and procured a fake marriage certificate to establish a fraudulent marital union.

According to officials, the victim was originally married in 2018 to a man from Kanpur Dehat, with whom she had a son in 2019. Following marital disputes, she returned to her parental home in 2021 and began working at a garment factory in Noida’s Sector 63, where she came into contact with Raja Miyan of Ghaziabad. Their acquaintance reportedly grew closer over time.

After Raksha Bandhan last month, the woman suddenly went missing, prompting her family to suspect that Raja Miyan had lured her away. Dissatisfied with the local police’s initial response, the family approached the High Court on August 22. On September 5, the woman was successfully traced and rescued from Chennai.

Investigations further revealed that on May 1, cleric Mohammad Ajimuddin allegedly conducted a marriage ceremony at Raja Miyan’s residence, despite the woman still being legally married to her first husband.

DCP Central Noida Shakti Mohan Awasthi confirmed that Raja Miyan and his parents have been sent to jail. He added that a manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding cleric and another accused, assuring that strict legal action will be taken against all those found guilty in the case.
