North Korea Launches Several Ballistic Missiles Toward Sea of Japan
The launches came shortly after the US, South Korea and Japan concluded a trilateral military exercise in international waters.
MOSCOW, Sept 12: North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan, with the projectiles travelling about 250 kilometres before landing in the sea, Yonhap news agency reported, citing South Korea’s military.
The latest launches came shortly after the United States, South Korea and Japan concluded a trilateral military exercise in international waters.
Pyongyang has repeatedly condemned joint military drills involving Seoul and Washington, describing them as preparations for an invasion. North Korea has frequently responded to such exercises with weapons tests, portraying the launches as a demonstration of its military capabilities.
North Korea last conducted a barrage of short-range ballistic missile launches toward the East Sea on August 20.
The United States Pacific Command said it was aware of the latest launches and assessed that they did not pose an immediate threat to US personnel or territory or to its allies.
“We are aware of the recent missile launch and are consulting closely with our allies and partners,” the command said on X. “Based on current assessments, this event does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory, or to our allies.”
The command reaffirmed that the United States remains committed to defending its territory and supporting its regional allies.
