Nurturing Creativity: ‘Tawi Festival’ Offers Platform for Youth to Explore Artistic Expression Amidst Seminars, Workshops, and Performances
Jammu : The much-anticipated four-day ‘Tawi Festival’, dedicated to celebrating the vibrant art, culture, and heritage of the Jammu region, is scheduled to commence on March 1, 2024. Dr. Jyotsna Singh, the esteemed Director of the Amar Mahal Museum and Library (AMML), shared this exciting announcement during a press conference held today.
Dr. Jyotsna highlighted that this year’s ‘Tawi Festival’ will serve as a focal point for promoting the rich and diverse art forms and cultural legacy of Jammu. Emphasizing the importance of providing a platform for the region’s youth to express their creativity and engage in insightful discussions with experts, she underscored the festival’s commitment to nurturing local talent.
The festival’s agenda includes an array of engaging activities such as seminars, workshops, and talks, along with captivating performances of folk music, street theatre, classical and folk dance, and music. Additionally, a vibrant Mela will feature prominently, showcasing entrepreneurship, innovation, local cuisines, and organic products sourced from women’s NGO groups across the Himalayan region. The culminating day of the festival will take place at the esteemed University of Jammu.
Collaborating to ensure the success of the festival are numerous senior faculty members from various disciplines, including Prof. Shyam Narain Lal, Prof. Suman Jamwal, Prof. Deepika Slathia, Prof. Parmil Kumar, Dr. Suvidha Khanna, and Dr. Garima Gupta. Sumit Sharma has been entrusted with the creative aspects of the festival, ensuring a memorable and enriching experience for all attendees.
Notable personalities who graced the occasion included Lalit Gupta, an eminent historian; Prof. Parmil Kumar, the Head of the Department of Statistics at JU, and a passionate bird watcher and photographer; Dr. Garima Gupta and Dr. Pardeep Bali from the Department of Media Studies, JU; and Col (Retd) Sudip Mitra, the Secretary of the Hari-Tara Charitable Trust and Additional Director of the Museum and Library. Their presence further underscores the significance of the ‘Tawi Festival’ in celebrating and preserving the cultural heritage of the Jammu region.
