October 2 OTT Line-Up Brings Crime, Romance and Family Entertainment

Pooja Meri Jaan, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit and other fresh titles expand the streaming choices for the first weekend of October.

NEW DELHI, Oct 2: The first Friday of October has brought a fresh collection of films and shows to streaming platforms, giving audiences a wide choice of crime dramas, romantic stories, family entertainment, action and documentaries.

Among the prominent releases is Pooja Meri Jaan, starring Mrunal Thakur and Huma Qureshi. The psychological crime thriller premiered on ZEE5 on October 2 and centres on themes involving obsession, rejection and social attitudes. The film is one of the notable Hindi additions to this week’s streaming schedule.

The new OTT line up is not restricted to Hindi cinema. Malayalam romantic comedy Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, featuring Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju, also began streaming on JioHotstar on Friday. The film had earlier been released theatrically and now reaches a wider audience through its digital premiere.

The arrival of these titles reflects the increasingly varied nature of streaming entertainment in India. Instead of concentrating on a single genre, the October 2 schedule brings together stories aimed at viewers with very different preferences.

Pooja Meri Jaan is positioned as a psychological crime thriller. Mrunal Thakur and Huma Qureshi headline the film, which explores the consequences of obsession and rejection while examining the way society responds to such situations. Its arrival on ZEE5 gives viewers an option centred on a darker and more serious narrative.

Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, meanwhile, offers a different tone. The Malayalam film combines family elements with romance and comedy and stars Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju. Its digital release on JioHotstar follows its theatrical run, giving viewers another opportunity to watch the film from home.

Another title receiving attention during the weekend is #Love, featuring Aishwarya Lekshmi and Arjun Das. The romantic drama is part of the October 2 streaming line-up and adds another relationship-focused story to the week’s selection.

For action-film audiences, Ip Man: Kung Fu Legend is also part of the new releases. Its inclusion gives the weekend schedule a martial arts option alongside the crime, romance and family-oriented titles.

The streaming slate also moves beyond conventional feature films. The Last First: Winter K2 offers a documentary centred on a challenging mountaineering expedition, providing an alternative for viewers interested in real life adventure and exploration.

The variety of genres available on the same release day demonstrates how OTT platforms have changed the way audiences approach weekend entertainment. Viewers no longer need to wait for one major film or series to dominate the schedule. Instead, several productions can debut simultaneously across different services.

The October 2 releases follow another busy day for streaming platforms. On October 1, titles including Dupahiya Season 2, Ohh My Dog, East of Eden and Sardar 2 entered the digital space. Dupahiya Season 2 returned with its rural comedy drama setting, while Ohh My Dog combined an investigation involving a missing dog with another disappearance in Bihar. East of Eden brought a new screen adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel, featuring Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist.

Sardar 2*, featuring Karthi and S J Suryah, also made its streaming debut on Prime Video following its theatrical release.

The expanded weekend schedule means audiences can move between Indian-language productions and international content without waiting for separate release windows. This has become a significant part of the streaming model, with platforms regularly introducing multiple titles around the same weekend.

The October calendar is expected to remain busy, with several films and series scheduled across Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, ZEE5 and other services. Industry listings have already highlighted a broad mix of theatrical and digital projects arriving during the month.

For viewers interested in Hindi content, Pooja Meri Jaan provides a new thriller option. Those looking for Malayalam entertainment can turn to Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, while #Love offers a romantic drama. International and genre focused audiences have additional choices through action and documentary releases.

The range also reflects the growing importance of regional cinema on streaming services. Films that first reach audiences in theatres can subsequently find viewers in other parts of the country through digital platforms, while subtitles and dubbing help productions travel beyond their original language markets.

The October 2 slate therefore gives the first weekend of the month a broad entertainment mix. From psychological suspense and romance to family stories, martial arts and mountaineering, the latest arrivals provide different viewing options without being tied to a single genre.

With several major titles already available from October 1 and more arriving on October 2, streaming platforms have effectively turned the beginning of October into a packed entertainment window. For audiences, the focus now shifts from waiting for releases to choosing among a wide range of newly available stories.
