TEL AVIV/WASHINGTON, Mar 31: A crude oil tanker sailing off the coast of Dubai was targeted in a suspected Iranian strike, triggering a major fire and heightening tensions across the Gulf region. The vessel, identified as the Kuwait flagged Al-Salmi, was carrying a full cargo of crude when it came under attack in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to officials from Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, the incident caused significant damage to the tanker’s hull and led to a blaze onboard. Emergency teams later managed to contain the fire, and no casualties were reported.
