Omar Abdullah Alleges BJP Plot to Undermine His Campaign with Independent Candidates
Srinagar, 06-09-2024: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has accused the BJP-led central government of orchestrating a conspiracy to silence him in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections. Speaking at rallies in the Ganderbal Assembly segment, where he is contesting, Abdullah claimed that the central government is fielding independent candidates against him as part of a deliberate strategy to undermine his political influence.
Abdullah recounted his previous experience during the Baramulla Lok Sabha elections, where he faced a surprising challenge from Sheikh Abdul Rashid, who was jailed but still managed to campaign from prison. Despite the unconventional circumstances, Rashid defeated Abdullah, a setback Abdullah initially viewed as a matter of bad luck rather than conspiracy.
However, Abdullah expressed growing suspicion as he prepared for the Ganderbal elections. Reports emerged that Sarjan Ahmad Wagay, also known as Barkati and currently imprisoned, was set to contest against him. Abdullah questioned why such efforts seemed concentrated against him and wondered if it was part of a larger conspiracy.
He noted that while Rashid’s candidacy made sense as a local figure, the decision to field Barkati, who is from Zainapora-Shopian, raised doubts. Abdullah and his team collected nomination papers from various constituencies without disclosing their plans, which led to a revealing incident. When Abdullah filed his nomination papers for Budgam, it became evident that the coordinated efforts against him were not mere coincidences.
Abdullah criticized the central government’s tactics, asserting that the attempts to silence him are a broader attempt to suppress dissenting voices in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that his opposition to Delhi’s policies is not just a personal battle but a fight for the dignity and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The BJP’s ongoing conspiracies against me reflect their discomfort with my outspoken stance on issues affecting the people,” Abdullah said. “But I remain confident that the voters of Ganderbal will see through these tactics and vote wisely.”
Abdullah concluded by reaffirming his commitment to advocating for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and vowed to continue fighting for their rights and dignity despite the challenges.
