Omar Abdullah Announces Plan to Develop Karnah as Major Border Tourism Hub

CM Omar Abdullah highlights region’s potential for eco-adventure and local economic growth

Jammu, Mar 28: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday informed the Legislative Assembly that the government is preparing a plan to develop Karnah as a key border tourism destination, recognising its untapped natural and adventure potential.

Responding to a query in the House, the Chief Minister said Karnah holds significant promise for activities such as trekking, hiking, and eco-tourism, which can attract visitors seeking offbeat travel experiences. He emphasised that structured development in the region could position it as a unique tourism hotspot.

Abdullah further noted that the administration is focusing on exploring lesser-known border areas to promote sustainable tourism while ensuring environmental balance. The initiative is also expected to generate employment and improve livelihood opportunities for local communities.

The move aligns with the government’s broader strategy to diversify tourism in Jammu and Kashmir beyond traditional destinations by bringing remote and scenic locations like Karnah into the spotlight.
