Omar Abdullah Calls Kargil Election Victory a Wake-Up Call for BJP: Urges Respect for Democratic Aspirations
08-10-2023 : The recent victory of the National Conference-Congress alliance in the LAHDC Kargil polls has elicited a strong response from National Conference Vice-President and former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. He expressed his delight over the election results and emphasized that these outcomes should serve as a significant wake-up call for the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
Omar Abdullah conveyed that it is high time for the BJP to move beyond the confines of Raj Bhawan and unelected representatives and acknowledge the genuine desire of the people for a democratically elected government in Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement issued, he underlined the importance of recognizing the fundamental principles of democracy and respecting the voices of the people.
The NC leader asserted that the election results in Kargil send a clear message to all forces and parties that had, in his view, “undemocratically” and “unconstitutionally” divided the state of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh without the consent of its people. He stressed that democracy requires that the will of the people be heard and respected.
Omar Abdullah went on to attribute this victory to the people of Zanskar, Kargil, and Drass, who unequivocally endorsed the National Conference-Congress alliance. He extended heartfelt congratulations to all the elected councilors, acknowledging their dedication to serving the people. He also expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Congress party for their steadfast support.
Furthermore, Omar took the opportunity to commend the tireless efforts of the dedicated party workers who worked day and night, persevering through challenging conditions, to ensure that on the day of reckoning, the JKNC (Jammu and Kashmir National Conference) flag would soar high.
In closing, Omar Abdullah reiterated the NC’s unwavering commitment to the principles of democracy, justice, and unity. He affirmed that the party would continue to work diligently to uphold the rights and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
