Omar Abdullah Pays Tribute to Ajit Pawar, Recalls Long Association
JAMMU, Jan 28: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on Wednesday, describing him as an able administrator and a consummate political organiser whose absence will be deeply felt.
Abdullah recalled his long-standing association with the late NCP leader during his college days in Mumbai, when he stayed with Sharad Pawar and his family.
“Shocked to hear about the untimely demise of Ajit Pawar Saab. I’ve known Ajit da since my college days in Bombay, staying with Sharad Pawar Saab and his family at Varsha. Ajit da was an able administrator and a consummate political organiser whose loss will be greatly felt,” Abdullah wrote in a post on X.
He added, “I join my father, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, in sending heartfelt condolences to Sharad Pawar Saab, Supriya Sule, and the entire Pawar family.”
Ajit Pawar, 66, was among five people killed when the private aircraft they were travelling in attempted an emergency landing at Baramati Airfield in Pune on Wednesday morning. Pawar was on his way from Mumbai to Baramati to attend a public meeting ahead of the February 5 zilla parishad elections in Maharashtra.
