Omar Abdullah Terms Iran War ‘Unjust’, Urges PM Modi to Intervene

J&K Chief Minister calls war “unjust and illegal,” appeals for diplomatic intervention in Assembly

JAMMU, Mar 27: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday strongly criticised the ongoing conflict involving Iran, describing it as “unjust and illegal,” and urged Narendra Modi to step in diplomatically to help bring an end to the crisis.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly as Leader of the House, Abdullah made the remarks after several National Conference members sought a formal statement on the issue. The call, however, was opposed by BJP legislators, who argued that the situation in Iran is an international matter beyond the Assembly’s jurisdiction.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives, including that of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others affected by the conflict, the chief minister extended condolences to all victims. He emphasised the humanitarian impact of the situation and the need for urgent global attention.

Abdullah also appealed to the Prime Minister to utilise India’s diplomatic influence and international partnerships to help de-escalate tensions and restore peace. He stressed that resolving the conflict would serve not only regional stability but the broader interests of humanity.
