J&K CM Thanks Maharashtra Govt and Philanthropists for Generous Contributions to Flood Relief Fund
J&K CM acknowledges Maharashtra’s and individual donors’ support for flood relief efforts amid heavy rainfall damage
Srinagar, Sept 12: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday expressed deep gratitude to the Maharashtra government for extending financial assistance of ₹5 crore to the J&K Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, aimed at supporting families affected by the recent devastating floods.
Acknowledging the gesture, Abdullah said such acts of solidarity embody the spirit of unity and shared responsibility among Indian states. In a message shared through his official X handle, he underlined that collaborative support in times of crisis strengthens not only relief efforts but also the emotional bonds that tie the nation together.
The Chief Minister also extended his thanks to Padma Shri awardee Vijay Chopra, Editor of the Punjab Kesari and Hind Samachar Group, for his personal contribution of ₹11 lakh towards the fund. He lauded Chopra’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes and said that individual and institutional generosity remains vital for effective disaster response.
The contributions come at a critical time when Jammu and Kashmir is grappling with the aftermath of heavy rainfall and widespread flooding that has left behind significant destruction. Key roads, bridges, and essential infrastructure have been severely damaged, while thousands of households across multiple districts continue to battle displacement, property loss, and economic hardship.
Officials said the relief fund will be utilized to provide immediate aid, rehabilitation, and rebuilding support for affected families. Abdullah reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in deploying the donations, assuring that every rupee will directly benefit those in need.
