Opposition MPs Stage Parliament Protest Over Student Crackdown, Ram Temple Donation Theft
INDIA bloc lawmakers demand accountability, accusing the government of excessive police action and raising concerns over alleged donation theft
New Delhi, July 30: Opposition members of Parliament staged a protest inside the Parliament House complex on Thursday, targeting the Centre over allegations of excessive police action against students protesting the NEET paper leak and the reported theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
The demonstration was held near Makar Dwar, where leaders from several INDIA bloc parties assembled with placards and raised slogans demanding accountability from the government. The protest sought to highlight two issues that the Opposition has vowed to pursue during the ongoing Parliament session.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined the protest along with Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav, Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Mahua Maji and several other Opposition lawmakers.
As part of the symbolic demonstration, the MPs carried a donation box and deposited money into it, drawing attention to allegations surrounding the reported theft of offerings collected at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The gesture was intended to question the handling of temple donations and demand a thorough investigation into the matter.
Opposition legislators also raised slogans calling for transparency and accountability, while demanding that the Union Home Minister address Parliament on both issues. A large banner displayed during the protest questioned who had authorised the use of force against students during recent demonstrations over the NEET paper leak controversy.
The INDIA bloc has accused the government of using disproportionate force against students who were protesting alleged irregularities in national-level examinations. Opposition leaders claimed the response by security personnel was excessive and called for those responsible for issuing the orders to be identified.
The alliance has also maintained pressure on the Centre over allegations related to the theft of donations at the Ram temple, saying the incident raises serious questions about the security and management of funds collected from devotees.
With both issues dominating the Opposition’s strategy, lawmakers indicated they would continue to press the government for answers during the remainder of the Monsoon Session, ensuring the matters remain at the centre of parliamentary debate.
