Opposition Slams Delhi Budget for Lack of Transparency and Clear Direction
AAP and Congress question fund utilisation, accuse government of presenting an unaccountable and directionless budget.
NEW DELHI: Opposition parties on Tuesday criticised the BJP led Delhi government’s ₹1 lakh crore Budget, alleging a lack of transparency in expenditure and absence of a clear developmental roadmap.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) raised concerns over both the current budget outlay and the utilisation of funds allocated in the previous year. Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj termed the budget “hollow,” questioning the government’s failure to provide details on how last year’s funds were spent.
He further alleged that despite cost cutting measures such as job reductions, discontinuation of pensions and cancellation of ration cards, there is little clarity on the allocation and usage of public funds. Bharadwaj also claimed that queries raised in the Assembly and through RTI applications have not received satisfactory responses.
The Congress also joined the criticism, with Delhi unit president Devender Yadav describing the budget as misleading and lacking vision. He argued that a budget should provide a clear direction for the capital’s development but failed to do so in this case.
Yadav additionally flagged concerns over government spending priorities, pointing to increased allocations for publicity and a decline in revenue from centrally sponsored schemes compared to the previous year.
The criticism from opposition parties has intensified the political debate around fiscal accountability and governance in the national capital.
