Over 1,000 Injured During Student Protests Across France: Reports
Hundreds of police personnel and dozens of students and education workers have reportedly been hurt as demonstrations over school conditions spread across the country.
Moscow, Oct 6: More than 1,000 people have reportedly been injured in France amid large scale demonstrations by high school students, according to a report by Le Figaro, which cited authorities.
The reported casualties include 715 police officers and gendarmes, along with 215 students and 85 employees working in the education sector.
The protests began in mid-September, with students raising concerns over heavy academic schedules, shortages of teachers and other problems affecting schools. While many demonstrations have remained focused on education-related demands, some gatherings have developed into clashes and unrest.
The growing movement has prompted concerns about the response from law enforcement, particularly as demonstrations have continued to expand. Thousands of people are expected to take part in solidarity marches scheduled across France on Tuesday.
The protests have also placed pressure on the government to address the concerns raised by students. French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has described the grievances of the protesting schoolchildren as “legitimate”, signalling an effort by the government to reduce tensions and open the way for dialogue.
The French government has instructed ministers to examine the students’ five main demands and prepare proposals aimed at addressing them by the end of October 2026, according to The Guardian.
The reported injuries involving police personnel, students and education workers underline the scale of the demonstrations and the increasingly tense situation surrounding the protests.
With further marches planned, attention is now focused on whether the government’s proposed measures can address the concerns raised by students and prevent further escalation.
