‘Guardians of Peace’: DGP Nalin Prabhat Honors 1,614 Fallen Heroes, Reaffirms Police-Public Bond in J&K
Srinagar, Oct 16: Paying rich tributes to the fallen heroes of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Thursday said that over 1,614 policemen have laid down their lives during the past three decades in the line of duty while fighting Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and safeguarding the unity and integrity of the nation.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 10th All India Police Games Judo Cluster at the Indoor Stadium in Srinagar, DGP Prabhat described the sacrifices of J&K Police personnel as a symbol of unmatched courage and dedication. “The supreme sacrifices of our martyrs stand as a testimony to the unwavering commitment and valor of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Their legacy continues to inspire us every single day,” he said.
He emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been at the forefront of counter-terrorism operations, playing a crucial role in neutralizing threats and maintaining peace across the Union Territory. “Our force has fought relentlessly against the enemies of peace and continues to do so with unshakable resolve. Every member of J&K Police works with utmost dedication to ensure the safety and security of our citizens,” the DGP asserted.
Highlighting the humane and progressive face of the police force, DGP Prabhat said the department has also focused on youth engagement and community outreach through various sports and cultural initiatives. “Our goal is to keep our bond with the people strong and meaningful. Events like the All India Police Games, ‘Jashn-e-Dal,’ and other district-level sporting festivals have not only promoted talent but have also fostered communal harmony and social cohesion,” he noted.
Referring to the government’s continued support, DGP Prabhat expressed gratitude to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for sanctioning ₹100 crore to boost sporting and youth-oriented activities across the Union Territory. “This generous assistance will help us further strengthen our engagement with young people, providing them platforms to channel their energy in positive and productive ways,” he added.
The DGP also lauded the achievements of J&K Police personnel who have brought laurels to the force by winning medals at national and international sports events, saying their accomplishments reflect the discipline and determination that define the department.
Reaffirming the police force’s commitment to building a peaceful, progressive, and inclusive Jammu and Kashmir, DGP Prabhat said, “Our journey is guided by the spirit of sacrifice and service. The trust between the police and the public is our greatest strength, and together, we will continue working for a stable and secure future.”
