Paresh Rawal’s ‘The Taj Story’ struggles at box office, collects only ₹17 lakh on Tuesday

After a strong weekend, Paresh Rawal’s The Taj Story faces a sharp weekday drop, raising concerns over its box office longevity despite already turning a profit.

Mumbai, Nov 12 : Paresh Rawal’s controversial film The Taj Story appears to be losing momentum as it steps into its second week. While the film opened to modest numbers, strong weekend word-of-mouth briefly lifted its fortunes. However, the weekday trend paints a different picture, with the film’s collections dropping significantly.
According to Sacnilk, The Taj Story collected only ₹17 lakh on Tuesday   a steep decline from Monday’s ₹40 lakh and far below Sunday’s ₹2.15 crore. The film’s total domestic box office collection now stands at approximately ₹16.37 crore. With this pace, crossing the ₹20 crore mark before its OTT release seems increasingly unlikely.
Released on October 31, the film had an opening day collection of ₹1 crore, which doubled on Saturday to ₹2 crore and peaked at ₹2.75 crore on Sunday. By the end of its first week, it amassed ₹11 crore, competing against Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma, Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa’s Ek Deewane Ke Deewaniyat, and Prabhas’s Baahubali – The Epic.
The Taj Story follows Paresh Rawal as a guide who becomes embroiled in a court case challenging the historical authenticity of the Taj Mahal. Despite its polarizing premise, the film was expected to sustain momentum due to its low production cost and strong initial buzz.
Made on a modest budget of ₹7–8 crore, the film has already turned profitable for its makers, but the sharp weekday decline has cast doubt on its long-term theatrical run.
