Parliamentary Panel Granted Extension to Review Bills on PM, CM Removal
Parliamentary committee to submit findings during final week of Monsoon Session 2026
NEW DELHI, Mar 27: A Joint Parliamentary Committee tasked with examining three key bills related to the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers under specific legal conditions has been granted additional time to present its report.
The Lok Sabha on Friday approved an extension, allowing the panel to submit its findings by the first day of the final week of the Monsoon Session of Parliament in 2026. The Monsoon Session typically begins in the third week of July.
Headed by BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, the committee is reviewing legislative proposals that seek provisions for the removal of top executive office holders if they remain in custody for 30 consecutive days on serious charges.
The three bills under consideration include the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025; and the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
These bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 20 last year and were subsequently referred to the committee for detailed scrutiny.
