Passenger vehicle exports surge 18% in H1 FY25; Maruti Suzuki retains top spot

Strong demand from the Middle East and Latin America drives India’s auto export growth, SIAM data shows robust performance across passenger cars and utility vehicles.

India, Oct 27 : India’s passenger vehicle exports recorded a strong 18% year-on-year growth during the April–September period of FY25, driven by healthy demand from global markets, especially the Middle East and Latin America.

According to the latest data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), total passenger vehicle shipments stood at 4,45,884 units in the first half of FY25, up from 3,76,679 units in the same period last year.

Segment wise performance showed that passenger car exports rose 12% to 2,29,281 units, while utility vehicle shipments increased 26% to 2,11,373 units. Van exports also witnessed a notable jump of 36.5%, reaching 5,230 units in H1 FY25.

Maruti Suzuki India emerged as the top exporter with 2,05,763 units, a sharp 40% increase from 1,47,063 units a year earlier. It was followed by Hyundai Motor India, which exported 99,540 units (up 17%), and Nissan Motor India, which shipped 37,605 units compared with 33,059 units last year.

Other major exporters included Volkswagen India (28,011 units), Toyota Kirloskar Motor (18,880 units), Kia India (13,666 units), and Honda Cars India (13,243 units).

SIAM attributed the overall growth to stable international demand and market diversification, noting that Indian automakers reported export gains across 24 countries, including the UAE, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Vietnam, and Nigeria.

However, the body also highlighted a dip in exports to the United States in September, citing higher tariffs as the reason.

Industry experts said the strong export growth underlines India’s growing presence in global automobile markets, reinforcing its position as a key hub for small and mid-sized passenger vehicle exports.
