Patanjali University Organises Seminar on Soil Health and Sustainable Herbal Farming Practices

Event highlights role of technology and traditional wisdom in boosting soil fertility and herbal farming

HARIDWAR, Oct 28: A two national seminar on “Soil Health Testing and Management for Sustainable Cultivation of Quality Herbs” concluded at Patanjali University on Monday. The event, held from October 27 to 28, was jointly organised by the Ministry of AYUSH, Patanjali Organic Research Institute, and NABARD in collaboration with Bharuwa Agriscience.
The seminar marked the first chapter of the “Swasth Dhara” campaign  a global initiative aimed at spreading awareness about soil health, food security, and sustainable farming practices. It also featured a demonstration of “Dhartika Doctor (DKD)”, an automatic soil testing device that provides quick analysis of soil nutrients.
The program began with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony and the chanting of Dhanvantari Vandana, followed by a devotional song by Dr. Archana Tiwari and her team. Acharya Balkrishna, Chancellor of Patanjali University, welcomed guests and dignitaries, including Shaji K.V., Chairman of NABARD, who attended as the chief guest.
In his address, Shaji K.V. highlighted NABARD’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and rural development, stressing the importance of supporting farmers, rural industries, and artisans through eco-friendly initiatives.
Acharya Balkrishna, in his keynote address, emphasized the interdependence of soil health and human health, stating that restoring soil to its natural, fertile state is crucial for ensuring nutritious crops and healthy communities. He described Dhartika Doctor as a revolutionary innovation that enables farmers to test soil nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and organic carbon in just 30 seconds, empowering them to maintain disease free and nutrient rich soil.
The seminar concluded with a poster presentation session, followed by the felicitation of winners with certificates and mementos. The event ended with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all participants, speakers, and organisers who made the seminar a success.
