Patriotism and Timeless Tunes Shine at CGPWA’s World Senior Citizens’ Day Celebration
Senior Citizens Relive Golden Era at Nostalgic Musical Evening Hosted by CGPWA
Jammu, 06-09-2024: On the occasion of World Senior Citizens’ Day, the Central Govt Pensioners’ Welfare Association (CGPWA) organized a vibrant musical evening to celebrate and honor the senior citizens. The event, held today, featured young and talented artists from Bharatiya Sanjeet Sansthan who captivated the audience with a 90-minute performance of classic Bollywood songs, evoking a wave of nostalgia among the attendees.
The program opened with a timeless hit from the 1958 film Dilli Ka Thug, “Yeh Raaten Yeh Mausam,” originally sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosale. This melody was beautifully rendered by young artist Kashish Sharma, who later enchanted the audience with another classic, “Jo Wada Kiya Woh Nibhana Padega,” from the 1963 movie Taj Mahal. She also performed a popular Dogri song, Chura Kun ghareya meri jaan chura kun ghareya, showcasing her versatility.
Krishna Purnam, a police employee, impressed the audience with his rendition of “Gar Tum Bhula Na Doge” from the 1969 film Yakeen, followed by the soulful “Dilruba Maine Tere Pyar Mein” from Dil Diya Dard Liya and “Suno Sajna Papihe Ne Kaha” from the 1966 hit Aaye Din Bahaar Ke.
Another standout performance came from Devangi, who mesmerized the crowd with “Bole Re Papihara,” a beloved song from the film Guddi. Dr. Roshi Sanmotra graced the stage with Lata Mangeshkar’s timeless classic “Nainon Mein Badra Chhaye” from the 1966 film Mera Saaya, and later delivered a soulful performance of “Dil Hoom Hoom Kare” from Rudaali.
The audience was further entertained by Nirmal Sufi, who played the harmonium and brought the house to life with “Lambi Judai” from the 1983 film Hero, originally sung by Reshma.
A touch of patriotism swept through the event as Dr. Ashok Bhan, former DGP, highlighted the emotional depth of the song “Aye Mere Pyare Watan” from Kabuliwala, which resonated with the senior citizens and brought back memories of the golden era of Indian cinema.
The event was attended by many distinguished personalities, including Ashok Angurana, Dr. Sudarshan Kumar, Prem Gupta, J K Vaid, S S Bijral, V K Padha, B B Magotra, O P Sharma, Upender Pachnanda, K L Sharma, Sunil Sharma, and K B Jandial. The evening left the senior citizens with a deep sense of nostalgia and patriotic pride, as they reminisced about the good old days through these musical gems.
