Pilot Alleges BJP–LDF Nexus in Kerala, Claims “Behind the Scenes” Support

Congress leader accuses Left government of covert ties with NDA ahead of April 9 Assembly polls

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot has alleged that the BJP-led alliance is indirectly helping the Left Democratic Front (LDF) retain power in Kerala, claiming there is evidence suggesting a covert understanding between the two ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for April 9.

Speaking in an interview, Pilot, who is overseeing the Congress campaign in the state, accused the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government of maintaining a tacit relationship with the BJP for political convenience, including shielding itself from corruption probes.

Rejecting allegations made by Chief Minister Vijayan that the Congress is acting as a “B-team” of the BJP, Pilot said the data points instead indicate coordination between the CPI(M)-led LDF and the NDA. He further alleged that the BJP has limited electoral stakes in Kerala and is attempting to shift its voter base in select constituencies to benefit Left candidates.

Escalating his criticism, the Congress leader claimed that the Left has not mounted significant opposition against the BJP-led Centre over the past decade, questioning its political intent. He cited instances such as disaster relief demands, arguing that protests against the Centre were led by Congress leaders rather than the ruling Left in the state.

Pilot also dismissed the Chief Minister’s remarks as baseless, stating they were aimed at deflecting attention from governance issues. He expressed confidence that voters would reject what he described as misleading narratives.

On internal party matters, Pilot clarified that the Congress had decided against fielding sitting MPs in the Assembly elections, adding that leaders have respected the decision in the interest of party unity.

Looking ahead, he said the party is preparing a comprehensive manifesto based on public consultations, promising a forward-looking and inclusive vision. Employment generation and addressing youth migration were highlighted as key priorities.

Expressing optimism about the party’s prospects, Pilot said there is a strong desire for political change in the state and exuded confidence that the United Democratic Front (UDF) would secure a comfortable majority in the 140-member Assembly.
